From Burlington County Health Department:

Residents should remember to keep a safe distance from others who do not live with you; wash their hands frequently and wear a mask. To make things safer for trick-or-treaters, avoid direct contact and give individually bagged treats away outdoors if possible.

“Although stores have reopened and many activities have resumed, we have to remember that COVID-19 continues to circulate widely within our community. It’s important that we continue to wear masks, stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you both indoors and outdoors, and wash hands or use hand sanitizer frequently”, said Burlington County Health Department Director, Dr. Herb Conaway.

In addition to wearing masks, it’s important that people also properly dispose of them. Stores and public buildings are still reporting masks are being discarded in their parking lots. Please respect our shared environment and toss used masks in a trash can.

Remember that masks are required to enter all retail establishments, county government offices and county libraries. Those without masks may be turned away. Although business owners and administrators may provide masks for residents who do not have one, it can reduce the number of masks that businesses have available for their employees.

Since testing is an important part of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders provides convenient access to COVID-19 testing through the following:

Halloween Activities

The Township has received several inquiries regarding Halloween and, more specifically, Trick-or-Treating.  The Governing Body will neither be endorsing nor prohibiting Halloween activities, but asks that those who chose to participate in any activity follow the recommended guidelines from the State as outlined below:

  • In place of placing treats in bags, the candy should be arranged way so that they can be accessed but can't be touched "multiple times."
  • Those distributing candy should have treats individually packaged so trick-or-treaters can "grab and go" with no shared bowl.
  • Trick-or-treaters and those distributing candy need to wear masks.
  • Groups should be limited to household members.
  • Groups should stay local.
  • Trick-or-treaters should limit the number of homes on their route.
  • Social distancing is required for groups who are not all from the same household
  • Handing out candy is not recommended.
  • Those distributing candy should wash your hands repeatedly.
  • Commercially packaged and non-perishable treats are recommended.
  • Outdoor trunk-or-treat events can be held, but the number of cars should be limited for social distancing. Lines should be single-file and socially distanced.  While these events are permissible they are not recommended. If these events are to be considered, please coordinate with the Township to ensure compliance with all local Ordinances and Motor Vehicle Laws.

Census 2020

Talking/Posting Points for Partners

  • We’re highlighting how the Census affects everybody.
  • The Census touches every life, every day.
  • Census data helps determine where more than $45 billion in annual federal funding goes in New Jersey. So having an accurate count of our population and what their needs are is important for funding a myriad of programs.
  • Whether it’s social service programs, education, healthcare, transportation, senior programs, or COVID recovery the Census affects everybody and all of our everyday lives.
  • Census data guides the distribution of federal dollars for important services such as:
    • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - known as SNAP; and
    • Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children – commonly known as WIC
  • Census data also impacts funding for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, including Pass through Child Support; and Social Insurance programs like social security and unemployment insurance compensation.
  • Census data directly informs the amount of Medicare and Medicaid funding we get in New Jersey.
  • For every 100 people not counted, a community loses an estimated $1.2 million annually in federal funds for programs such as Medicaid, social services block grants and vocational education.
  • In terms of public health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) data collection methodology for the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) is based on the Census.
  • The CDC, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and researchers in many fields use the NHIS to track issues ranging from disease to barriers to care to federal programs’ success – again, this will be of tremendous importance as our state recovers from COVID-19.
  • And Census helps with community planning and analysis in order to distribute those dollars in an equitable way to those who are most in need.
  • In some of our communities there is reluctance among some to fill out the Census. But here’s why you should:
    • The Census is safe – and we want to emphasize that. Your personal data is protected by very strong federal laws and in New Jersey we’ve got your back as well.
    • It’s easy – you can fill it out online or by phone;
    • And it’s really very, very important.
  • The NJ Friends & Family Census Outreach Program - CALL THOSE WHO COUNT ON YOU - And ask them to fill out their #2020Census. NJ’s federal funding for healthcare, schools, transportation & so much more depends on a complete count. You’re the most trusted voice to ask them to #FillitOut. It’s easy. Everything you need is here: https://nj.gov/state/census-outreach.shtml
  • The Census is a civic duty that we all participate in, regardless of our status, and whose benefits reinforce and remind us like nothing else that we are truly all in this together.
  • Our country is very different in 2020 than it was in 2010. Be counted in the 2020 Census. It matters!
  • We invite you to share our posts about how the Census affects everybody! Share one of our posts, or share your own post about why residents should complete the Census.
  • Complete the Census at 2020CENSUS.GOV or over the phone at 844-330-2020 (English), 844-468-2020 (Spanish) or any of the other language numbers listed at CENSUS.NJ.GOV.

SCAM ALERT

Scams: Another Side Effect of Coronavirus

PSE&G warns customers of scammers taking advantage during times of crisis.

(NEWARK, N.J. – April 8, 2020) — Public Service Electric & Gas,
New Jersey’s largest utility, is more committed than ever to the health and safety of its customers. A heightened sense of uncertainty throughout the world is emboldening phone scammers who impersonate utility employees and PSE&G urges customers to know the facts and protect themselves.

“In times like these, every challenge our households face is
magnified,” said Fred Daum, executive director, PSE&G Customer Operations. “The heightened anxiety we’re feeling is perfect for scammers, whose preferred tactic is to make people panic at the thought of getting their power shut off. That’s why it’s important for people to know that, during this crisis, PSE&G is not shutting off power for non-payment due to financial burdens.”

Phone scammers typically tell their potential victims that they must pay an overdue bill or face immediate shut off of electricity. PSE&G is reminding its customers that, in the interest of protecting public health, shut-offs of electric service for non-payment have been temporarily suspended.

As another reminder, PSE&G does not accept payment via prepaid gift cards, wire transfers or cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin.

What to look out for

* You receive a call from what looks like PSE&G on your caller ID.
* The caller threatens to shut off your service and demands an immediate payment by cash, pre-paid card, wire transfer or Bitcoin.
* The caller informs you that you require a new meter and demands a deposit before the installation can occur (PSE&G does not require a deposit for a new meter installation).
* You're given a phone number to call back that, when called, may sound similar to PSE&G’s automated call system.
* The caller alerts you that, because of your good bill-paying history, you’re eligible for a bill reduction or discount but you must provide information first.

What PSE&G will and won’t discuss over the phone

* A genuine PSE&G representative will ask to speak to the account owner.
* If that person is available, the representative will explain why they are calling and provide the account name, address and current balance.
* If the account owner is not available, the PSE&G representative will not discuss the account at all and ask that a message be left for the Customer of Record to call 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).

For more information on various payment scams in the PSE&G service area and around the country, visit www.pseg.com/scamalert.

Message from PSEG

Dear Elected Official and Professional Staff:

During the current COVID-19 health crisis, customers who may never have been behind on their bill may be looking for financial assistance. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is still taking applications. Like most of America, LIHEAP agencies are not taking walk-in traffic, but customers can still submit a LIHEAP application online or by fax. Sending an application by mail is also an option.
To receive LIHEAP assistance, customers should meet income eligibility requirements and submit a completed application. Applications can be downloaded through the PSE&G website at pseg.com/help or pseg.com/ayuda(Spanish). (Note: customers do not have to be behind on their bill to receive LIHEAP, and customers who have already received LIHEAP this season may also be eligible for additional assistance through LIHEAP.)
For more information about the LIHEAP program, or other energy assistance programs, call 1-800-510-3102 or ‘211’ seven days a week.

We strongly encourage you to please share this important information in any manner (township website, Facebook page, township newsletter, council meeting, municipal TV, etc) that will help advance this communication.

Thank you,

PSE&G Regional Public Affairs Team
