FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dec. 14, 2016 CUSTOMER SERVICE:

PSE&G Warns
Customers to be Alert to Scams
(Newark,
N.J. – Dec. 14, 2015) Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G), New
Jersey’s largest utility, is urging its customers to be alert to scams this
season. Customers should be cautious of callers who demand immediate payment
via a pre-paid card, and wary of phony utility workers showing up at their door
to “check a problem.”
“The
only way to protect against these scams is for customers to be cautious when
contacted by someone seeking access to their home or demanding immediate
payment,” Greg Dunlap, vice president of Customer Operations for PSE&G. “Even
one customer being robbed or cheated is one too many.”
Phone
scammers use scare tactics -- threatening service termination if they do not
receive immediate payment with a pre-paid credit card. PSE&G offers a
number of payment options, and would never require a customer to use one
specific type of payment.
Door-to-door
scammers use trickery -- showing up at someone’s house dressed like a utility
worker and say they need to “check a problem.” Often, after they gain access
they burglarize the home. Always ask for I.D.
When
in doubt or if suspicious in any way, PSE&G urges customers to call the
number listed on their bill: 1-800-436-PSEG (7734). Report all scam attempts by calling your
utility and local police department, and file a complaint with the FTC at www.ftc.gov/complaint.
For
more information about scams go to www.pseg.com/scamalert.

Leaf Collection Status
The Public Works Department is currently collecting curbside leaves throughout town. The truck is currently in the East End section of town, and will make a final pass through town upon completion of that section. Any questions or concerns regarding leaf collection should be directed to Meghan Jack, Township Administrator, at 856-461-1460 x4 or mjack@riversidetwp.org
Energy Aggregation Program Update
The following is an update on the Burlington County Energy Aggregation Program:
To date, the BCEAP has saved residents $74,338 on their
September energy bills. While this is the case, PSE&G customers might notice on
their recent bills that the PSE&G supply rate was lower than the TriEagle
supply rate. This was due to a reconciliation charge issued by PSE&G which
temporarily lowers the default supply rate for a month. The
reconciliation was significant enough to reduce the default rate for the month
of October and November lower than the rate obtained by the county in the
auction.
As the energy aggregation program promised, the TriEagle
supply charges will never exceed the utility supply charges. As such, we have
worked with the supplier to ensure all PSE&G residents who experienced the
increase will receive a credit for the difference. To that end, TriEagle
Energy began issuing credits to residents’ accounts last week. These
credits will appear on residents’ next utility bills under the supply portion of
the bill, labeled as “MISC Adjustment”.
We anticipate as the weather gets colder, the PSE&G
monthly reconciliation rate charge will adjust back to the historical
averages and the County’s Program rate with TriEagle will continue to be below
the average, like it was in September, providing additional savings to our
residents.
Residents with any questions and concerns should contact 1-855-200-2648.
